Bill began his tennis career at a very early age.
At the age of 18, he won the Kentucky State Championship and as a result of his hard work, received a full scholarship to Western Kentucky University, majoring in Physical Education and Psychology.
Bill suspended his tennis activities for one year while serving in Vietnam with the Army. While stationed in Europe, he played on the All Army Tennis Team with another great tennis athlete,
Stan Smith.
As a result of his enterprising attitude and many successes in clubs around the United States, he eventually established himself in Columbus, Ohio at the
Continental Club. During his eight-year tenure at the Continental Club, he was discovered by the Galbreath family who subsequently later moved him to Treasure Island, Florida.
Bill quickly found his way to
Naples, Florida and began another great venture with AirCoa, owner of a 37 Har-Tru first class tennis court facility, Naples Bath & Tennis Club. Bill was very perceptive in establishing an adult tennis academy in Naples, which was one of the fastest growing cities in the United States in the mid to late 80’s. AirCoa, owned by Will McFarland, built the Bill Beverly International Tennis Academy which continues to attract groups from all over the world!
Bill met the woman who would forever change his life in 1989. Jane Trejo, employed at a real estate law firm at the time, met Bill at a business cocktail party. Bill introduced himself to the young aspiring artist, singer and entertainer as "the Bill Beverly of Naples Bath & Tennis".
